Hi!  I am Laurie Sparwasser and I am privileged to be chosen by the Department President, Mary Spindler, to present and help you get reported in the Veterans and Family Support Program.  This is a large program with many parts to help our veterans and their families, thus “Leaving our Legacy” for our children and future generations to show how we can honor and care for our heroes.

This is the program that supports service officers.  These service officers help our veterans through the red tape of the Veterans Administration to get their benefits, especially disability, pension and education.  I know all auxiliaries cannot afford to donate a lot of money to this program, but please read all the information about it in my program and the following general orders so everyone in your auxiliary knows about this program in case they have a veteran who needs the help of one of these service officers and report that you have done this.

This is the program with many parts within it.  Operation Uplink – giving veterans Free Call Days; Unmet Needs – helping families with financial help for basic life needs; Sports Clip Help a Hero Scholarship – a scholarship for veterans and service members to help with their education; Military Assistance Program – helps VFW Posts and Auxiliaries with send offs or homecomings for veterans; Adopt a Unit – doing things for the deployed military – forms included in the program book.

A long standing program. Anything you do with poppies can be reported.  All monies from Buddy Poppy drives goes to your Relief Fund to help veterans and their families in need.

All auxiliaries should make their Health and Happiness Donation of 10 cents per member to VFW Auxiliary National Headquarters and earmarked as such.  The home can also use any other donations your auxiliary can give to help keep this large campus operating.

This part of the program consists of anything your auxiliary does for a veteran and/or their families.  Please report your clothing drives, Stand Downs, all cards sent, mats made, meals served, homeless veterans helped, coupons sent to deployed units, etc.

I am here to help you with any questions you may have or any help you need getting reported.  I know all auxiliaries can be reported on all parts of this program early in the auxiliary year.

We have provided a place here for you to download all of the information that we distribute to you through our Program Book and Bi-Monthly Chairmen's Bulletins.  You will need Adobe Reader, it is a Free program and can be downloaded here  Get Adobe
